User1213 2006 Roadtrek 210 Popular Build

Very Nice, as usual Hondo.

I was able to keep using the original Roadtrek wall mount. The 05/04 190 had a 15" monitor with a broadcast tv tuner built in. Went from that to a 19" HD which I broke, finally figured out how a did it. Then another 19 inch. Then decided to spoil myself and went to a 24 inch. Had to drill 2 holes in the mount for the 24 inch.

I received the 24" superbowl sunday from amazon. Installed it and happened to be alone that day, so I watched the game in the B in my driveway. It was larger than the 80 inch in the house from about 15 feet. I was very satisfied with the sound, enough that I did not go in the house for the halftime show for the sound system - too lazy.

That is a retired US Navy Vought A-7 Corsair on display in Fallon, Nevada...it is on a pole in town...there is a US Navy air base there.

I saw it and pulled up next to it for a photo.

Wheel & tire update.

I have ordered a set of Method 310 wheels and larger BFG tires for the 210.

While the 275/75R-17 tires are good, when the 210 is at it's maximum weight the tires will have a good weight safety margin (how much weight they can handle) but I wanted to have a larger margin that the bigger tires can provide. The taller tires will also increase the lift a small amount.

The 17's are rated at 3,195 lbs per tire and I have ordered a set of larger 18 inch tires that will be rated at 3,640 lbs per tire. This will increase the safety margin (think of it as the tires not working as hard) especially when a motorcycle is on the rear carrier.

The wheels, Method MR310, bronze finish, 18 X 9, 18mm of offset, rated for 3,600 lbs of load -

I will be trying tires on, starting with the larger BF Goodrich T/A KO2 275/70/18... this tire is 1 in taller than the current 275/70-17 KO2. This tire is rated at 3,640 lbs each.

If they are too large then we will be using a 265/70-18 KO2 which is .4 inches taller than the current 17. This tire is rated at 3,525 lbs each.

Here is a pic of an Express van with 5 inches of lift, Method 310 wheels -

I'll be installing these next week... stay tuned!

OMG, those wheels are going to look awesome on your class b. Post a picture when you get them on !

I struggled between the machined aluminum finish and the bronze, decided to throw caution to the wind and go with the bronze- can't wait!

Wheel & Update # 2

After doing more research I found a 17 inch tire that will give me a huge load increase over the current BF Goodrich tires and fit on the Silverado wheels that are currently on the Roadtrek....

Nitto Grappler AT tires in 285/70R-17. This tire is rated at 3,750 lbs @ 80 PSI and has a the AT tread design that should be good on and off road -

image_07.png

This tire is slightly larger - .5 inches taller and .4 inches wider so it should fit in the wheelwells of the lifted 210 4x4.

I will need to get a 5th 17 inch alloy wheel and hopefully it will fit on the spare carrier without much modification.

Where did you find that load capacity? I am looking at the Nitto site and all of them are listed at 3195# in the load range E tires in that size.

Are there other models?

I did find a 3750# rated tire in a 285 width, but it is for a 285-75-16 load range E tire. Looks to be available in numerous brands.

The great thing is that this 285-70R-17 tire is just a bit larger than than the 275-70R-17 BFG's on it now but with that 3,750 rating.

Also, the regular Grappler has the higher ratings in a more street oriented version if I wanted to go with that.

I'm on my way to pick up a refurbished 17 alloy wheel to mount the spare tire on. That way I can do 5 wheel rotations and not worry about the spare while on trips. Hope to have it all done by this afternoon.

With regard to increasing tire load, isn't the ultimate limitation the maximum axle load? Hondo replaced his Dana 60 with a Dana 70 which probably cuts the mustard but wouldn't the 3750 lbs rating exceed the load rating of a Dana 60?

The entire point of ME getting the tires with the most load capacity is safety.

I will be running my 210 near maximum weight and want the assurance that I wont overheat & blow a tire.

If I was in a lighter class B I could use a different tire by my ( and all 210s) 210 is heavy.

I have seen Dana 70 specs online at 7000 and 8500 lbs but they are usually associated with box trucks with dual wheels. Upgrading my Dana 60 to a 70 was done for the same reason I'm upgrading the tires.

Basically, simply an insurance policy. Hey Hondo, you have put a lot of time, energy, stuff you might not want to share and...................

Makes sense to me. I would do the same.
