I just replaced the one piece membrane style hinge on my 2000 RT 190. Upon testing the water tightness (is this a word?) with medium pressure with a water hose, I found some water enters through the side & bottom seals. This product is a "D" shape seal with 2 ribs. Where can I buy this product?

try steele rubber products.

they have an extensive catalog, you just need to determine the profile and the measurements

I have tried Steele Rubber products and I have tried Trim Lok products. Neither seems to have my exact rubber seal.

A thought just occured :eh: .....My rig is an older model, and previous owner(s) may have substituted non-factory seals. Possibly I am currently using incorrect weatherstripping.

Does the seal in the following pictures look like the seal on a 2000 Vintage RT side compartment (for those of you that have a similar model)? .... any of you fellows have a similar rig?

I'll take a look at mine tonight and take some pictures.

Also, my hinged seal looks like it was both steel AND plastic (combined). But the plastic is ripped almost from side to side due to "cycling". I'm confused at what it's supposed to look like. Would you have a picture of the finished installation?

Matt, I am just finishing installation on a new side compartment hinge. I too had some kind of Frankenstein plastic/steel hinge installed with drywall screws no less! Apparently the plastic hinge membrane failed, so a previous owner screwed on a piano hinge over the broken factory plastic setup.

See picture: On the left is a correct new, 1-piece plastic membrane hinge. On the right is a partial old plastic hinge with an aluminum piano hinge fastened over it.

Here's what mine looks like:

Sorry... Once installed, it's not easy to photographe.

Mine seems like it's the correct product but has cracks in the folding part (age, sun, cycles, etc.) plus they seemed to have added some caulking. Let us know if you find caulking that seems from the factory or added.

Looks like yours in installed correctly (perhaps a bit too much silicone on the top part).

But... this is the hinge part.

What I seek are a few good pictures of the rest of the compartment seal.... the foamy rubber on the sides and bottom of the compartment. Can you help?

Ask (twice) and you shall receive! ;)

So it is a "D" shaped strip. The one on the right (the vertical one) is just "squashed".

Yours looks almost better.

Thanks for the picture Matt. This is the rearmost driver side compartment if I am seeing correctly.

Question... Is your "D" shaped seal shown the same as used on the lower storage compartment on drivers side?

Thanks

Thanks Matt

Thanks. I finished the new seal.

Nice job gklugie! Where did you end up buying that weatherstripping? What part #?

Mine, as you might see, is pretty flattened out. A replacement this winter might be a good thing!

Weatherstrip is manufactured by Trim-Lok.
I bought it on Amazon (part # Trim_Lok X5381 HT ).
$33.

I will add that it was difficult to remove the old strip's gooey adheisive .... lots of "goo-be-gone" solvent! Also I cleaned area perfectly with rubbing alcohol for a perfect surface. Installation was a breeze.
