Today I ordered an Aktiv 1.0

You should watch the Russo's videos, who are living with it, and are getting fine with it. I've had these kind of things in boats for many years and it isn't a problem. I've seen the FitTV video.. I'm not going to criticize it other than to say I have disagreement with some of how they did that.

I owned a cassette toilet for years and never had the issue the FitRV had. Besides not even using a cassette toilet for their comparison, I think they were more interested in taking a jab at Hymer and the Activ than presenting a true picture of life with a real cassette toilet.

I just watch the FitRV cassette video, and found it biased toward a composting toilet or whatever was their real objective. I have the cassette for the last 3 years and my experience doesn’t come even close to their reporting.

1. As already stated the Porta Potti Curve toilet is not a cassette toilet, it is a Porta Potti.

2. Their claim of “burp” when opening the slide valve due to the absense of vent, wrong statement. My cassette toilet Thetford 402 has a vent which opens automatically during cassette insertion.

3. Their promotion of composting toilet due to its powered vent, cassette toilet has provision for attaching any vent, powered or not.

4. I use Odorloss chemistry, there is some smell during dumping but not as overwhelming as reported by the FitRV fellow.

My first thought when watching both of these experiences (FitRV and the Russos) with the cassette toilet was to wonder if these young people have ever had kids. A few years of diaper changes probably makes one more tolerant to the joys of all this.

Not a criticism, but might be an effect.

Agree, the cassette dumping is tame compared to changing diapers and cleaning up either your children or your older parents when they get to the point where they also need your assistance. At least that is my experience...

It's interesting I spent a bunch of time around sailboats and sailboat forums and no one ever discussed toilets or dumping them to this extent. Never even thought about it really. A lot sailboats you dump the tank out the deck at a dockside dumping station... not sure why dumping a toilet or black tank is such a big deal with RVs. We love ours and use it like a regular toilet and then dump the black tank. I wouldn't mind a cassette as an alternative.

I am more surprised at the van builds that do not have an enclosed toilet at all. Sure it takes up space but it is so much better than walking outside at night or in the rain. If we were going to do that why not get a tent... heck of a lot cheaper too! The onboard toilet is one of our favorite luxuries of our van.

Totally agree. The folks who take pride in never having sullied their black tanks are beyond my comprehension.

I love our shower, too.

In my current RV, I have never used the black tank... nor have I ever gone behind the nearest bush. For my short trips these days, wag bags work perfectly.

Cancelled my order today. Not going to be played a sucker by LaMesa RV or Hymer.

They are both full of chaos. Nobody could confirm a delivery date - even a month after my order. I suspect the whole "we had a open slot so we can get yours really quick" was all bullshit. LaMesa is already has a troubled reputation, but they were convenient for me, but they really could have cared less about my order.

Recent Facebook postings about continued ecotrek problems didn't help any either.

So I bailed. I may do something completely different.

The alternate reality show where Ron buys an RV from Jim Hammill has now been cancelled, we return to regular programming... :)

Well heck, I'm disappointed. I was looking forward to a thread with 300 messages on your experience getting an Aktiv. ;)

LOL - I was beginning to think there would be a "woe is me" thread in not too long. Instead, there is going to be a build/refit thread!

I was really intrigued and looking forward to following along as well. Too bad it didn't work out. It could be a nice product but I agree the new Hymers are really risky right now IMO. Interested to see what you do next with your project.

Hey Ron... were you able to touch base with Dan M? He was sending you a private message on Facebook. He's the rep in my area... and has been very patient and helpful (and honest) with my questions.

I could work with La Mesa in AZ when I decide to buy, but... don't really like these giant dealers. They tried to mess with me over some warranty work... charging me for supposed extra time. (!) I got on the phone to RT from the waiting room, got Leo H very luckily, and he fixed that right up.

Games... don't like that either... I was surprised that they had told you it would be so quick when others had been talking about a 3+ month wait.
