5 1/2 seems OK... not for off-roading, but you'll not get stuck leaving gas stations or going over speedbumps. Mine was 3.5 and has been lifted to 5".

Please let me know what happens to your Thor generator low clearance issue. I have a Jayco Swift with only 5 1/2 inches of clearance. Thanks
