Just looking back; Winnebago took over the #1 spot in April 2015: http://www.classbforum.com/forums/f9...html#post28547
Seems like yesterday but it has now been 10 months (as of Jan '16 stats).

Looks like RT gains might be coming out of Pleasureway. That seems odd to me, but PW hasn't had anything really new or different in a while and their prices have creeped up.

And Great West is now out of the picture also.

Well they have been for many months - at least May or June of last year. But their output, just like ARV and Sportsmobile is not really enough to move the needle.

There are still some new Great West units at the dealers, at least around here, so I would assume they would show up in sales, but not delivered models. Who knows how many have been sold over the time from when they closed and now. How much influence--?

I thought their total output, when they were really humming, was around 50 vans a year.

DavyDD will have to answer that, but I don't think it ever got that high. ARV hasn't hit that number yet

My point being that with a total "market" of around 3,000 units, these boutique builders don't have much of a share, percentage wise.

My best guesstimate after visiting both the St. Andrews and Winnepeg plants under both ownerships that GWVan never came close to 50 units per year. They never had more than a half dozen serious dealers and they couldn't keep them stocked.
BTW, I did see a Promaster GWVan Classic at Patagonia Lake State Park in Arizona. Some got out the door.

That's like spotting a unicorn. I'll bet there were only one or two of them.

You got to be out and about to spot the unicorns. Still haven't seen a desert tortoise or a rattlesnake.

I posted this in the Hymer Aktiv topic:
Quote:
Class B's accounted for about 7% of January 2016 motorhome shipments and all motorhomes accounted for only 14% of all RV shipments. Towable RV's dominated with 86% of the market. Class B's made up approx 1% of all RV shipments (including towables).
|
but thought it would be informative to expand a bit on it here.
I found these stats for 2015: http://www.e-c-f.com/fileadmin/user_...CMT-JPK_EN.pdf
Sales in Europe totaled 151,293 units.
Motor caravans accounted for 81,298 units.
Towable caravans accounted for 69,995 units.
Motor caravans had approx 54% of the market in Europe compared to motorhomes having only 14% of the market in NA. 47,310 motorhomes here vs. 81,298 there.

The B sale report should be out today or tomorrow. Any predictions? I'm so curious to see if RT builds on the momentum from last month.

February 2016 Class B Sales stats have been posted on RV Business: SSI: Class B’s Slip 4.4% in Feb.; Grow 5% YTD | RV Business
Sales were down 4.4% compared to last February.
Quote:
Year-over-year Class B motorhome retail registrations dipped 4.4% in February but posted a 5% gain year-to-date, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).
|
Here's the Class B market share breakdown:
December 2015
Winnebago Industries Inc. 33.9% market share.
Roadtrek Motorhomes Inc. 28.6% market share.
Thor Industries Inc. 24.1% market share.
January 2016
Winnebago Industries Inc. 33.9% market share.
Roadtrek Motorhomes Inc. 31.6% market share.
Thor Industries Inc. 24% market share.
February 2016
Winnebago Industries Inc. 33.2% market share.
Roadtrek Motorhomes Inc. 29.9% market share.
Thor Industries Inc. 23% market share.
Pleasure-Way 11.9%
Fantastic to see Pleasure Way back in the summary report. I wish they'd always show the top 4. Maybe double digit percentages is a requirement.

It will be interesting to see how things go when the Hymer vans start being sold, wonder if they will lump the overall Erwin Hymer Grouo NA sales together or not...
The Class B Camper Van group on Facebook seems to have disappeared today, not sure what happened but maybe I finally annoyed Wincrasher enough that he made the group disappear just for me...

I assume the Pleasure Way sales number includes the Class C models also or do they only count only the true Class B models?

If they let the brands (Hymer & Roadtrek) compete I don't know if either could gather the numbers needed for 1st place alone ...........
I think it is easier for a dealer to say "This is the number one selling brand." when trying to close a deal.
I saw a post by Jim that seems to indicate Hymer will be offering other RV classes/types at some point. That's exciting also.

The reporting is for Class B's only as far as I know. I have a direct response from the Statistical Survey's that confirmed Thor's products for the reporting were Class B's and NOT Class C's so I expect the same criteria for Pleasure Way.

Of course, Pleasure Way calls their Class C models wide-body Class Bs...
