Default Travato 59G Rear access to under-bed storage?

Wondering if one of the 59G owners (esp. 2015 or 2016) could comment on the possibility of cutting an access on the rear of the under-bed cabinet to allow longer objects to be stored in that space?

I'm referring to the blank panel that's visible when the left rear door is open. Wondering if cutting a hole there would be possible, and if so, if there's enough room for a cover panel over it. The thought is to be able to load a bag that contains microphone stands and a speaker stand into there. Our speakers are likely only going to fit in the aisle under the bed, and we have to fit a few guitars, too, so I'm curious about any places where we could store items that have to be with us.

Anyone have a photo of the inside of the lower storage area below the bed? I'd sure be interested to see it.

Here is a photo of the back

You could cut a hole there about 10"w x 11"h

From the side

That space is about 10"w x 11"h x 52" long.

Except for the last half.

The rear wheel well takes up more than half of that space leaving you about 5"w x 11" h x 26".

So really you have one space that is 10x11x25 and one that is 5x11x25 although it is one large space with no partition. These measurements are approximate.

Hope this helps,
Eric

A number of VW EVC owners add access to a rear compartment using a marine access hatch. Several companies sell them; they come in many sizes.

That is probably a Bomar, but there are other companies.

Bomar - Hatches - Access

Company sells retail, but check out marine suppliers like West Marine, Defender, even Amazon. Better prices, I think.

Comes in white, gray, black, etc. but note a particular size usually comes in only one of those colors. And the photo may not match the color in the description. Usually gasketed, too.

I'm curious on how you replace the tail light bulbs. I had to make accommodations in my build to have access to the bulbs and tail light assembly fasteners for replacement in case of damage, without major surgery to the cabinets.

That's a really good question. I'm in denial about the whole thing.

Ok, there is an access port on the driver's side above the bed.

And on the passenger side, this long filler panel comes off.
