Solar powered refrig heat exhaust fan
Our Roadtrek has a visually clean double grilled heat vent for the Dometic Unfortunately it vents heat slowly. The Dometic unlike our previous Norcold in a Eurovan does not have an exterior exhaust. Instead it vents upward into a space with the vent grille on top. Heat tends to pool in this space and vents slowly. This reduces down the ability of the refrig to cool down quickly.
I was inspired to rig up something even more effective. I've had this small solar panel with a cigarette lighter socket plug. It was made for VW to keep their cars charged as they sat on the docks, waiting for pickup. This was an eBay purchase several years ago. Recently I got a 5", 12v computer fan from eBay that had low power requirements yet with a decent 60cfm output. I wired it so that I can plug it into the output plug from the solar panel. It's held on the vent louvers by a pair of heavy wires bent into a U that I can rotate to lock into it into place. With full sunshine the fan runs at a nice clip. Field testing will begin soon, but so far it looks promising.
