I can’t really agree with rtbill re Chevy dealer. I had the shudder issue, really bad. Mechanic at the dealer offered me two options: standard issue pads/rotors for $600 or heavy duty rotors/pads $900…$900 and no further problems 3 years 70,000 miles later.

I think that what you may find is that some dealers will only replace with OEM parts and not venture in to heavy duty or such if it was not an option when new. It may just be a stupid policy or maybe the lawyers want it.

Good is your dealer went the better way. I am sure AC Delco has good aftermarket rotors and high quality semi metallic pads available for your van and those would likely fix the problem as other brands have for other users. Some dealers probably would go to aftermarket parts if they knew they would fix problems Chevy parts wouldn't, and that is the way it should be done.

I changed my front rotors and went with semi-metallic pads last week as recommended by Booster. So far so good! Sometimes you can get brief relief by rotating your wheels but it is short lived.
I hate to admit it but I did cook my brakes on the first big grade of the year but not quite cooked enough to warp them. The transmission shifting on the 2004 Chevy's is absolutely stupid and I always forget that it needs to be babysat. Tow/haul doesn't do anything downhill and it free-wheels downhill in regular O/D too. Gotta manually clunk through the gears like 150 years ago...
