Default LED lighting

I have replaced all of my interior lights with leds. The problem is the external door light. I have bought a few replacement lights and non work. The regular filament light and switch works fine. The led looks to be an identical replacement for the exterior light. When directly connected to a 12 v source the led works fine. I can't figure it out. 2005 210 p. Jerry

Could be reversed + & - wiring at that fixture. LED's require + on the + side and - on the - side.

yes leds require correct polarity- most lamp sockets orient the bulb correctly.

see if rotating the bulb 180º is the fix

I'm not even sure how you reverse a socket. Reversing the wires at the socket is what needs to happen.

To me, the socket is in the lighting fixture. Were you referring to reversing the lighting fixture socket wires or reversing the bulb?

Usually, when an LED doesn't work in an RV lighting fixture it's because the 12V+ wire and 12V- wires are reversed at the fixture. Incandescent lights still work with the wires reversed.

If you've confirmed that is not the problem then it could be that the LED bulb isn't making contact in the light fixture socket. That's more common with household type LED bulbs though.

if you have a dmm you can check the polarity of the socket. If it checks out good it has to be a bad connection as Marco stated.

Great tip.

You probably have single contact base fitting in that light fixture. This is what the polarity should be:

That's the bulb. In the socket you can test like g1g says by touching the positive probe of your volt meter or multi meter to the single contact at the bottom of the socket and touching the negative probe to the side of the socket.

If it reads -12v (neg) the wires wires to the fixture where accidentally reversed when it was installed. If it reads +12v (pos) then the new bulb isn't making good contact for some reason.
