So I was at Menard's 2 months ago and saw some interesting looking LED lights on a discount shelf. I had to check them out. I was planning on trying to figure out some type of light for the outside. I saw the new Leisure Travel video with the led lights on the awning and put that on the "want" list. Yes this list is long
The sets were made up of 5 16" long strips that could be either daisy chained with jumpers or joined end to end. They were powered by a 120 volt ac to 12 volt dc adapter, stainless steel mounting clips, a remote and could change color and brightness. Originally $60 on sale for $25. Although they were for indoor use I immediately had some ideas. I bought 3 sets. Some ideas work out and some don't
I played with them and figured out that if I seal the connections I could use them on the outside. I installed them using dialectic grease in the connections and sealing the joints and ends with electrometric sealant. There is a control box and distribution box that I hid in the old outside light after painting the lens white. The pictures probably are better than the description
I was a little concerned about the performance at a little higher voltage of 13-14.5 VDC. It does not seem to affect them. The color function is cool. Hopefully the yellow mode will not attract as many bugs.
I also installed 4 strips on the inside and made a cover from an old frame painted white and plastic lens. I am not happy with the cover and will be brainstorming.
My DW just watches and shakes her head but I can tell she also thinks they are "cool"
