External Storage Rack Using Offset Receiver Hitch
I wanted to carry some foldup recliner chairs externally on my Roadtrek 210P. I had a bike rack that would work well, but using the center receiver would have required a long extension making the chairs stick way behind the van. This simple mod provides a laterally offset 1-1/4 inch receiver hitch to mount the rack so it does not stick out so far.
The mount simply bolts on to the existing hitch. Hardest part was cutting the opening in the reducer sleeve to accept the hitch extension. Drilling holes at the corners made the job of cutting the rest of the opening much easier. I adjusted the location of the Hitch adapter in the reducer sleeve so the bike rack was as close to the van as possible. Then drill holes in the existing hitch and components to bolt it together.
Test run on 2-week trip proved the design works great. Being able to lower the rack to access the back of the van worked great. Having recliner chairs is so much more comfortable than the foldup bag chairs we have previously used.
