TV and VCR replacement

I have a 2002 Rialta. I want to remove the TV and VCR and replace with a new HD TV and a DVD player. Has anyone ever done this? Also, the TV is only 9 inches. Is it possible to put in a backing plate (plywood) and fasten a somewhat larger (13 inches) TV to it? Will the existing wiring accomodate a transfer from the VCR to a DVD player?

Husband is in the process of mounting a 13' flat screen over the current TV opening. He's an old A/V geek, and hasn't had to do much with the current witing to make it work. He installed a digital antenna, otherwise it works stock.
