Default Transmission on a 1997 Rialta

Hello all,

I am having a problem with my transmission on my rialta when I driving for some time the vehicle will start to require much higher RPMs to sustain the same speed. Example traveling at 65 at 2500 rpm's then to 55 at 4500 rpm's. The weird thing is if I stop the vehicle for a while and get gas or do something then go back in it's fine with no problem. This is happened more than once and I'm afraid to go on a long distance drive with it. At this point I am baffled being it is a self-contained transmission unit and I cannot check levels. I saw somewhere on this forum that somebody suggested putting a transmission cooling system. How do you check the transmission fluid levels on this vehicle. Thank you in advance for all your help. Frank
