I have a 97 Rialta that needs a TCM. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have 2 options, repair or new.

My understanding is that a TCM unit from another VW will work. There was a long discussion last year about the TCM and not being available, discontinued. If you have a bad TCM, you need to look above your unit to see if water has leaked down from your front windshield. This is what has caused the TCM to go bad.

Hi again Mike:

i gave the TCM info you sent me to the mechanic and he is telling me that the because the last letters of the replacement TCM is BC and not AC he is not sure it will work and once it's bought and plugged in its mine.

Can you point me, or do you know if this new TCM will work?

Thanks,

neil

Does anyone know for sure if the TCM with an identical part number but the last 2 letters are BC instead of CM will work in my 1997 Rialta?

You need to join Groups.IO to read more about the TCM. The same TCM of a Eurovan can be used in the R. There were more Eurovans imported than Rialtas and you may can find one in a slavage yard. Try Jim Ellis VW for a TCM. Another member had one ordered from him with the correct code BC and cost about $852 including shipping from Germany.

You can try opening up the TCM to see what may be wrong with it, burnt wire, etc. that can be repaired. This was done for another R owner and they found burnt wires and repaired to working order.
