Smogging a 2001 Rialta QD that has had a radio up grade

Hello fellow Rialta owners. I up graded the radio in my 2001 Rialta QD. It included GPS and back up camera. When I went to have it smogged none of the machines could get a reading. I was told that because I changed the radio, that it can't be smogged. I had to put in the old radio to have it smooged. I don't see myself changing radios every two years. Has anyone had a similar expierence? Can this be fixed? I would appreciate any info.

There are a couple of options. You can buy an adapter cable for that particular radio that will fix the problem (Crutchfield has them). You can also clip the wire on the VW radio harness. It's on pin 3 and is a grey/white wire. The problem only shows up using a non-VW radio without a correct adapter harness. There's one in there for the existing radio because Winnebago added it.
