Default Let's talk about cabin Air Conditioning

2001 QD, 26,000 miles the Air Conditioning in the cabin went kaput. Local VW dealer won't even take the keys from me to look under the hood. Two unaffiliated mechanics who do RV work have looked at it, recharged, leak checked, flushed the system. Both say it needs a new compressor. Baldy's site suggests not purchasing new compressor (over $2K estimate in 2006). They suggest either have the stock compressor rebuilt in Florida, or step up to a more expensive, but stronger Sanden compressor (http://www.rialtainfo.com/TheB.....r_cond.htm). This option requires a specially-built adapter but nobody can provide who can/will mill one.

Does anyone have any experience with servicing or having AC system serviced? Anyone do the Sanden + specialized adapter option? Need to get the beast fixed before we put it to bed in a couple months so would appreciate any comments. If you've done the Sanden option and recommend it, where can I get one of the adapters?
