Batteries not charging with Shore Power OR Generator power.
Went to my '99 HD to check systems, etc. I checked battery condition on the monitor panel prior to starting the generator. It was down one LED notch. After the generator started, the battery still read down one notch!! When the Rialta engine was started, the batteries read all the way up. Anytime either power source is operated the battery should read fully charged. Then came the trouble shooting. Was it the Solenoid or the Circuit Breaker in the battery compartment (Coach batteries)? Was it the Power Supply that is located under the rear passenger bench (next to Atwood Water Heater)? The LED was lit green, leading one to believe that it is still working. Luckily, I had the manual for the Power Supply which was original to the coach. They had some testing parameters.
I got my meter and found that the terminals at the Power Supply were only reading 12.25 volts. The Power Supply is supposed to read an even 13.5 volts when running. I also noticed that the little cooling fan on the PS was not running. After checking the battery voltage I realized that I was getting the reading from the existing battery power coming back. So, the Power Supply is shot. This is no surprise because of the extreme heat we have here in AZ. I had the rig plugged into shore power for about 2 months and, along with several good lightening storms, I think it finished the unit off. I also read online that this particular brand of PS was not very good. I found a fantastic replacement for $129.00 on eBay. It is made by Progressive Dynamics and came highly recommended by seasoned RV owners. I purchased it and will post an update to my (hopeful) success!
