2.5 litre rpms seem high
I just purchased a '95 Rialta w/ the 2.5Litre VW engine & have been working on some minor details. All in all, the motor home is in great shape for its age. A couple of issues I would like to deal with:
1) when cruising down the road at about 65mph, the rpms are at abou. t 3500. This seems a little high to me, but perhaps because of the relative small engine size, maybe this is normal??
2) The battery light is on. It's a newer battery & all connections are tight. Put a volt metre on the battery with the engine running, and it looks like it's getting about 14volts. So that seems OK. But the light may be indicating an alternator problem, maybe something as simple as a loose bolt connection. It doesn't look like it's very easy to get to the alternator however. Do I have to remove the grill?
3) The power mirrors and horn do not work. I looked at the manual & it lists a 10amp fuse for the horn, but I see nothing for the mirrors. I was told by the previous owner that both are on the same fuse #13 10 amp. I have not pulled that fuse yet to check it out & do not have a replacement. I will do that as soon as I make a trip to town - but meanwhile, does anyone know whether or not the horn and mirror fuse is on the same circuit?
There are a few other issues, but would like to tend to these first. If anyone out there can help me out, I would greatly appreciate your advice. Also, anything else you can add with your experience with this vehicle would help too. Thanks!
