If the option price of adding the 48 v Volta system is $18,000 (actual cost would be $18,000 plus the cost of the Onan generator that was deleted) to a Travato then that is a pretty good deal for a 700 AH lithium set up with the inverter, aux generator, display, DC-DC converter, etc.

I would think another important factor is it's a system that can be adapted to any class b company the price of the system might come down.
the other thing when searching the internet with roadtreks you always have to figure out what kind of system they have.
A 59KL would be a far easier search.

I think Volta can get pretty decent sales volumes with the scalable battery bank since they are targeting both OEM and aftermarket installs in all classes of RVs plus the marine and commercial truck/bus markets. With the sales volumes, costs will come down and I think with good reliability and usability and good PR from initial users the RV market at least will take off.
It will be interesting to see the Fit RV review of the system, they are taking one out for testing this week.

The Xantrex system is MSRP 21k but since the Li3 option deletes the Onan, an 8D AGM and a 2kw inverter, the real world MSRP is about 27k. Applying their typical discount brings this down to about 20k out of pocket. The estimated $18,000 Volta system includes a 700ah battery which IMO is a bit skimpy and you're not really getting the practical advantage of the high capacity charging feature of the 48 volt system. I would think that for Volta to realize its full potential you would want to beef up the ah capacity of the battery to 1300-1500 ah which would come fairly close to 8 hours of AC operation without engine support.
Both WGO and Coachmen have only one year warranties but fortunately both the Galleria Xantrex system and the Volta system come with three year warranties which is important protection from expensive repairs or replacements for this category of equipment. However, where this work would be done is not spelled out at this point by WGO or Coachmen. Xantrex does have a number of repair stations scattered throughout the county. I don't know how Volta plans to handle this. One of the problems with new technology is the lag time involved in the trickle down of the necessary expertise at the repair facilities for servicing it.

volta has been intalling these in tiffins for awhile. also boats. 8 months ago they partnered with ARV and ARV is still installing them. It is not like roadtrek which rushed them out and did not really test.
the other thing is that it is the same system every time.
I actually have far more confidence in this than ecotrek
this is an automotive battery like used in electric cars. the lithium chemistry is not the same as ecotreks or the other plug and play batteries that re LiFeP04.
this is the same lithium chemistry as used in vehicle for propulsion
electric car batteries are warranted for 8 years also

Just read an avalanche of posts regarding Volta and noticed that someone mentioned Volta's 30% higher efficiency solar charge controller, wonder how was it calculated, high voltage PV panels with MPPT are good and 30% seems as a lot.

If they are comparing to high voltage panels with a PWM controller and undersized wire, they probably could make 30%. We all know that all the manufacturers create conditions to make their products look better, even if it is never that way in the real world.

Actually it's a composite warranty that addresses both time and mileage. In the CARB states, I think the warranty time period is bumped up to 10 years. This warranty period most likely isn't something the OEMs are crazy about. It's imposed on them. To keep from losing their shirts, their computers seriously limit the level of charge and the depth of discharge.

Seems like everybody in this industry makes pitches that can't measure up to the reality. For example, Volta pitches that their system will support a roof AC for mucho horas but leave it to the fine print to indicate that it's based on a 50% AC duty cycle.

So a whole bunch of 18650 or 21700 batteries? Maybe there will be some home built battery packs in van campers. Maybe there are now.

The FitRV just posted their GLreview video.
Some nice changes:
- dual pane windows
- running coach warm air down to the battery and the fresh water boxes
It is really kinda funny to see dual pane windows, but the bare sheet metal exterior of the van is visible is so many places with not even thin insulation on it. Probably the windows have more insulation value than the walls.
But the battery system and alternator and inverter combo is very nice.
Don’t get why they didn’t go with an induction cooktop though. That’s just weird.
Leave all the propane for heating— you will need it.
Also curious why the AC isn’t a heat pump. Not unreasonable way to heat in mild cool weather when you are driving a lot each day (which will recharge the battery “for free”.)

The 2019 Travato has dual-pane windows as an option. I think that is a nice thing to have, because it deadens noise quite a bit. Even though Volta is tried and true, I would probably wait 1-2 model years until Winnebago works the bugs out.
It is nice to see improvements in models that are not just some new trim or just useless gewgaws. Having dual pane windows is a big step up.
