Default What can tow a Class B campervan?

Are most Class B campervans ~ 9500 lbs? I've been looking at the roadtreks. My truck can pull 6500 lb, so I was wondering if there smaller Class B's out there (used ones).

I deleted my previous post as I had misread the question. I realize now that you asked what will tow a campervan not what will a campervan tow.

Lots will weigh around 9000 lbs. Hopefully somebody here knows which are the lightest campervans.

my chev based Pleasure way is close to 8800.

so what you would want to look at are unibody construction- rather than body-on-frame. a unibody weighs less and can carry less so wouldn;t be built out as heavy

a "poptop" rather than a large heavy fiberglass top or cap

and minimal cabinetry ( which is more likely with a high roof)

put the other way around, my van can pull 5000/500...maybe a B will pull your truck?

or you want a trailer trailer- and pull that?

Most true Class Bs with all the amenities are going to top 8,000 lbs. Sprinters will exceed 9,000 lbs. Heavy duty pickup trucks with high tow ratings will pull them but you have to wonder why. Those kind of trucks are almost as big as the Class B's and trailers and 5th wheelers are much cheaper to tow with them, or vice versa, tow a small car with a Class B. But then if you do that, get a bigger motorhome and enjoy the space.

I would think that the only time a class b would be towed would be by someone with a huge diesel pusher, who still wants to be able to hit the regional camping areas around where they are staying. We have actually seen one that way, a 40' A with a 190 Roadtrek in tow, and there have been pix of various others around for a long time.

Other than that, I would think the only time you would see a B being towed would be behind a tow truck

Unless that Class B has a manual transmission or a transfer case with a neutral position, you're looking using a dolly, trailer or removing the driveshaft if it even has one. Maybe someone has built some after-market doohickeys to make life easier like driveshaft disconnects or transmission fluid pumps, but I'm not aware of any.

Drive shaft disconnect couplings are a pretty standard thing for towing a vehicle four down behind larger motor homes...

I stand corrected. I thought Remco went belly-up a few years ago.

Recently weighed my 2001 RT170: 3465 front axle, 3480 back. I'm 160#, the rig was basically empty: lpg tank 1/2, fresh water 1/4, black/gray empty, gas tank 1/3 full, original TV/vcr & cabinet removed. Carrying about 100# cargo. If I remember right, the gvwr rating is 7800#.
