Default We're newbies!

Yesterday we bought a Winnie 70C for two. We're pretty well hyped about it, and plan a San Antonio TX to Atlanta then Asheville NC trip over the December holidays. Anybody familiar with the route that may have suggestions?

If you wanted to do SA to NC to ATL ( kinda)...I'd suggest going North to pick up hwy 60 and that'll take you towards NC

you can find it up by tulsa or go towards ft smith and branson where it is a short jump to 60 ( or 160 across MO is nice too)

hwy 60 is a living 2 lane ( mostly) mom and pop road that is what we think rt 66 was.
small towns lotso stops small markets, motels, restaurants etc etc.
you can find the chain places, or ignore them for local flavor.

pretty much anywhere there is an interstate rt, you can find the "old hwy" and double your travel time...and triple your fun

We're also curious about where to park for the night.

depending on State, some allow rest stops to be used overnight - check the local regs. many walmarts, cracker barrels and bass stores allow overnights.

an app such as RVPARKY ( which is free for iphone) will help you find a place whether a parking lot, rest stop or rv park.
koas are always a pretty good standard, but usually more costly- great for the weekly laundry stop though.
koa offers a membership/discount- we have yet to break even on one of these

Congratulations on your purchase and have fun on your new adventure! My wife and I are still deciding on which RV is right for us so I am super jealous. Have fun.

I hear you. We planned to wait 2 years, till full time retirement. The ERA 70C seems like as good a floorplan as we'll find, so when this one was on sale in Houston, we shifted gears, and made the plunge. This forum has great tips, and is the first thing I signed up for when we got back to SA.

For finding campsites, it is hard to beat Allstays (Allstays | Campgrounds | RV Parks). They have a website and apps. The basic website is free, but you can pay a fee for more features. Also, they have apps for Apple and Android phones and tablets. I would advise you to avoid overnighting in rest areas. We have never used them and you can find a lot of horror stories if you look. The problem is most are not patrolled and you are on your own.

We have a similar story of the plan to wait a couple years for the same model, but then we found a low-mileage unit and took the plunge. We love the floor plan! So far, we've only driven it home to Oklahoma City from Iowa but plan to spend lots of time in it in the years to come.

Hi Rick and Gwin,
What color did you get? Ours is silver. Yesterday I nabbed a full size Airweave mattress topper. We'll let you know if it's worth it.
