Default Uncovered exterior vent

Hi all, more questions about my "new to me" 2008 Roadtrek 190 Popular van. There is a vent on the roof, passenger side, black circular about 3" tall that is uncovered. I am told that is the way it comes but it doesn't make sense to me that it is open.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks,
Marie

I do not have a Roadtrek. But it looks like the vent for the black tank? You can put some water down the pipe and check the level of black tank gauges?

I am thinking the same thing but why is it open? Shouldn't there be some kind of raised cover? Maybe someone can shed some light.

Thanks,
Marie

I have a PW. Both of the vents were similar to yours. One for black and other for grey. I placed some vented covers to stop varmints and stuff from going down. Just a precaution. I believe many manufacturers see no problem leaving exposed like yours.

Can you tell me what kind of cover you used? I would like to do the same.
Thanks,
Marie

I used the least expensive. Basically it has a couple of springs going into the vent pipe. Allow the cap to sit above the vent. Here is a link to it on Amazon.

There are more fancy ones with venturi to actively remove odors from tank, etc. Best of luck

I used a venturi type cover- the slightest breeze while parked will pull any gasses or odor out the top and gone

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

on some rv's cracking a front window while driving can cause a low pressure in the rv, pulling gasses up from the tanks

this helps with that

as i recall I used self tapping screws to mount ( rather than a glue) so that I could remove if needed.

This is standard. Every one of my rigs had this on the roof and I never bothered to cover it and there was never an issue.

The one on your house is uncovered too.

I folded a square of window screen over mine secured with a zip tie around the pipe. Just to keep leaves and bugs out.

I've had no fumes inside my van, but if I did, I'd install the Venturri-style vents based on satisfied customer reviews I've read.

Heck, I've had to install those on the top of my house.

Default roof vent

I added a solar vent fan cover so any smells are removed via the roof vent.
It works great.

Ultra-Fab Products 53-945001 Mini Solar Plumbing Vent on amazon.
