Default Tire 'trim' damage

I own a 2018 Zion SRT. The tire 'trim' on the front passenger side of the van has buckled, though I haven't hit anything and to my knowledge, nothing has hit it. Is anyone familiar with the problem? I'll try to upload a photo.

looks like something was stuck in the gap and the door opened on it?

that's the leading edge of the door isn;t it?
make sure that it doesn't cause additional damage if the door is opened

I'm sorry my picture doesn't show it clearly. The bent part is not by the door. It at the place where the two pieces (of what I'm calling it) trim come together -- sort of above the tire. There's nothing rubbing (that I can see). It's perplexing.

I think Mike figured it out. A twig or branch or something similar got caught in the gap. The thinner lower leading edge of the moulding bent up a bit when the door was opened (or maybe when closed) causing the paint to peel and that edge remains lifted. The other thicker moulding was not affected.

It looks like 3M double side tape held that thinner corner in place.

Much thanks to both mkguitar and marcopolo. I'm used to dings and scratches, but this odd thing had me wondering what was going on in the parking lot. Again, thanks --
