Default sanitizing water tank

I read the book and all it said was put bleach water in the tank - it didn't say how. I have a 1997 Coach House and the only place I can find to put water in the tank is the input for fresh water. The problem is when I mixed up the bleach water in a bucket and tried to reverse siphon it into the tank, it didn't work. I had the bucket above the input. I had jerry rigged a small plastic tube with a screw fitting to fasten it to the input. I filled the tube, plugged it with my finger and inserted it into the bucket. Nothing happened.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I'd mix the bleach/water and then pour into a large bottle and use a funnel and pour it down in there; then you can finish with the hose. Drive it around for awhile and you should be good to go. Safe travels.

The main obstacle to that is that there's a screen on the input so I can't get a hose of funnel or anything else inside.

How do you normally fill your fresh tank? Is the opening threaded
inside or outside to allow a garden hose to be connected?
Is the screen like a mesh washer in the opening to the tank?
If so, it might be pried out with a slim flat blade screwdriver,
or a paper clip bent to hook it by the edge.

What I do is attach a garden hose to my outside house tap.
Then I carefully pour as much bleach as needed into the open end
of the hose, and then just plunk it into the door fill opening in
the back of the Roadtrek, and then just turn on the tap.
I think this mixes it while it fills the tank(s).
The door fill opening is just wide enough to accomodate a garden
hose (male end).

This is a my first B for me and the first time I'm trying this, so I'm winging it here. But your suggestion to pour the bleach in directly is good. I'll also try to pry off that little screen because the water pressure gadget I bought already has one on it.

Thanks ever so much.

I think that is how much of the expertise involved in owning and operating a B is gained.
At least it has been for me, as I'm not always on the internet, and I always seem to have questions.

I usually end up cutting up an old water bottle (the small ones you drink from) to make a very strange looking funnel to get mine done. What kind of B and water fill are we talking about?
