Default RV Park I-10 New Mexico

My wife and I are headed to Phoenix for Thanksgiving out of San Antonio. We plan on overnighting on the way out perhaps west of Las Cruces. I’ve used Dyrt, Campendium, and a few other apps to find a clean place to stay for the night without finding anything very desirable. Maybe that’s just an I-10 issue? Curious if anyone might have a suggestion for a good RV park or campground up to 150 miles west of Las Cruces? We thought of taking the northerly route along I-40 but worry about cold and ice. Our return trip allows four days so we may take a more leisurely route home.

If you are willing to drive a bit off of I-10, City of Rocks SP and Rock Hound SP (both near Deming, NM) were neat places to overnight.

Their websites indicate both are limited to New Mexico residents only. I suspect another victim of Covid fallout.

Thanks, Mike. May have to do in a pinch. Sad as New Mexico, particularly northward, is really beautiful. I wonder about BLM land camping?

Assuming it is open, the rest area 10 miles west of Deming with it’s Casitas is my favorite of all time. No hookups, of course, but bathrooms. I even schedule a late start out of Phoenix heading east to take advantage of it.

I believe that NM is still enforcing strict travel and quarantine rules with fines for violators. If so, I would get out of my vehicle only if necessary to refuel. We went through a corner of NM numerous times this summer, but made sure we would have no reason to stop.

Check their website, then call to make sure.

Best I can tell using nmroads.com it is open. It is the Yucca rest area eastbound and Gage rest area west bound if that helps your research.

Try Lifestyle RV Resort and Fitness Center in Willcox. Stayed there about a week ago. Reasonable, clean, quiet.

A few years back I stayed at the KOA in Las Cruces. It's not far off I-10 and there's a great view from its location. KOAs are usually predictable... and this was one of the nicest I've stayed at over the years.

We're booked at the KOA. If not too far from town, we may have dinner at a nice Mexican restaurant we found once before in the historic district. Thanks for the recommendation.

Glad that they had space. When I came through NM/AZ on I-40 about a month ago, the campgrounds were nearly full when I called. In one, I got the last space and only because my little SRT would fit.

Please, please get your dinner take-out and eat in the van.
