Default RV Dump/Septic System

Has anyone built a small RV Septic System to handle the few times they were not able to dump after a trip? If so what plans did you go by? What was the cost? What problems did you encounter?

You biggest problem would be with the local authorities, as septic systems are very highly regulated. You would probably be better off trying to find a way to get the dump to you house sewer lines. That is what we did, and it works well.

If you have a macerator pump, you should be able to run a line over to the house-sewage "clean out" cap.

THe PW Excel does not have a macerator. The problem with using my home septic system is that the house is on a berm and I am not sure there is enough room to run the RV up next to the clean out.

Maybe accessing the actual septic tank would be easier?

We have a septic system and had a pipe added so we could dump our tanks at home. Check with a local septic installer about adding a RV drain pipe. It wasn't that expensive for us and was well worth the cost. So convenient.

Not really in regards to the septic system but if it is only a few times a year that you need to empty at home you may want to check with local campgrounds or in our case we purchased a membership to a conservation park that allows us to enter the park (many in the area included) and empty. It supports our local parks, included one night free camping, entry anytime for day use, discount if you camp in one of the parks and the list goes on. I think it cost approx $90 for one full year. So although not a septic system you may have something like what we have in your area.

I heard from a friend that some rest stops on the turnpikes and major roads have dump stations. Comments? Thanks,

The Rest-Stops in Washington state have free dump stations.

I'm lucky to have two, free dump stations within eight miles of my home so I haven't had any problems dumping or flushing the tanks. I'd suggest you consider a portable macerator pump like this:

Flojet also makes a similar system. Seems it could satisfy your needs at a minimum of expense.
