Default Rust Problem

Hey, I've found a 2002 roadtrek 190 class B for $18,000 that I'm looking to buy. It's in great condition inside and runs great. The things that causing me pause is underneath is some serious rust, especially around the propane tank. I was talking with a friend that said it could be a good deal still if I get the rust taken care of and replace the propane tank. Has anyone had experience with this, how much does it usually cost and is it still a good deal?

if you can push a screwdriver through the rust, walk away

the frame and body need to be intact, the prospect of removing the rv build to weld in a new floor pan is very involved and costly

if just a tank, they can be replaced-

See if you can take it for a test drive. If you can, drive down a gravel road at regular driving speeds for ten minutes.

Then take a look at the rust. Is it still there or is it all gone? If it's all gone then what you saw was scale from sitting above grass or having snow underneath the RV.

If it is scale, that likely means the RV sat for a long time and should be mechanically inspected for hidden issues such as suspension and steering issues and dry rot of all hoses and tires.

If it is rust, this needs to be inspected mechanically for safety as it may be rotting underneath.

RV's need to be driven, not parked for eleven months a year and used once. An older RV with low mileage can be a bad sign.
