Default Roof Caulking

Our Roadtrek SS Agile is 5 years old and while washing the van recently I noticed the caulking / sealant around the exhaust fan looked worn and brittle. See attached picture. How often do others replace the caulking and which product is recommended? I’m trying to practice proactive maintenance but perhaps I’m overreacting as we have not had any leakage issues. Thanks!

Steve

If you clean it really well you may be able to put some self-leveling Dicor sealant over the existing sealant.

Thanks! I followed your advice and cleaned the surface well prior to sealing over with Dicor self leveling sealant.

I use Sikaflex 221. Roof seals can go bad very quickly, especially in the subtropics. The Dicor stuff doesn't seem to stand up as well here (Texas Gulf Coast).

You can use Ethernalbond tape for sealing where Dicor is used. It comes in several widths and I have used it before. Once you apply and roll on top to activate the glue, it is near impossible to remove and seals for many years.
