Roadtrek Zion Promaster Recall
Hello Forum members,
We received a recall notice (S44) on our Roadtrek Zion Promaster (2016 chassis/2017 Roadtrek) in September. Has anyone with this issue been successful in having the transaxle oil pump replaced by Dodge?
Thank you.

Wow, I wonder if they can replace the pump on those units without pulling the whole engine and transaxle.

I guess that's a negative "win." I don't think we are the only owners affected by this recall. Roadtrek must have sold many during this time period nationally. Our dealer has one on the lot. We are hoping to hear from people with this issue.

Our advice from Dodge was not to use the vehicle until repaired, but we are unable to find a dealership willing to do the repair. We are, of course, in contact with both Roadtrek and Chrysler, but are feeling very distraught at this point. We are uncertain about our options if this repair cannot be made. We are reaching out to other Zion owners facing this situation. Does anyone know where I can find the number of Zions sold with this defect? Possibly many are on dealers lots as well. I would think all class b owners or would be owners would find this situation of interest.

What do you mean the dealers are unwilling to perform the repair. Unable, maybe, because they don't have the parts yet, or maybe they're not Ram dealers, but unwilling? They don't get to be unwilling.

Have you have received an initial recall notice which indicates that you will get another notice when parts are available or have you received the final notice indicating that parts are available and to schedule a repair at a dealer?
On most recalls the dealer is unable to predict when the parts will become available until they get to the point when they are available...

What we are told by three Promaster dealers, their lifts are unable to hold the weight of the Roadtrek conversion. Our understanding from RT and Chyrsler/Dodge is the parts are available. We are waiting to hear from RT/Dodge that they have found a willing/able dealer to perform this work. That's why my outreach to other owners in the same boat, I should say RV. If this works out favorable and the repair is made, great. Then just a heads up to others to be aware of the recall. If it doesn't work out and we have a huge problem, then we are looking for help and support with other possible options. We greatly appreciate your response and interest in this. We have read this forum for a long time and always appreciated the generous and kind nature of the participants.

Our RV dealership called and said they secured an appointment for us. It's a distance from us but we are relieved with this news. Hoping for the best. We will let you know how things worked out. Thank you.

It is all in the wording. It's not that the dealers were unwilling to do the work, it is that they were unable to do it because they do not have the capacity.
An option by the way, would be to request the dealer to contract the work out to a local shop that is both qualified and equipped to do the work. That happens a lot more often than you think. You drop your car off at the dealer, it gets driven/towed to a third party, fixed and then driven back. This happens quite often in the transmission industry.

Thanks so much Bruceper. I think we are going to be ok. Our RV dealer made an appointment and we dropped the Zion off today. Hopefully, we'll be back on the road soon. We learned that only some dealerships are equipped to handle the Promasters. Appreciate the forum's help and will be happy to give any we can to Zion owners or future owners.

For any of you in the Minneapolis area involved in this recall. I talked to this dealer in Hopkins when I was debating between a Zion and a 170. I talked to the service manager and specifically asked if their lifts could support a Promaster RV conversion. He said it was no problem for them.

Back with an update. We can happily report Route 18 Auto in East Brunswick NJ completed the recall. Unfortunately, one "aftermarket" item that had to be disconnected was not reconnected. Mechanic was unable to do that. Now we are waiting for Roadtrek dealership to inform us of next step. Disappointed we are still not on the road at this beautiful time of year (except for Matthew).
Also, as mumkin stated dealership must have a truck lift to handle work on the promaster. We foolishly thought any Ram dealer could do that, but this is not the case. Thanks all for your responses.
