Refrigerator too cold

My Dometic RM 2862 Refrigerator gets too cold. It has five temperature settings but salad and bottled water (glass) will freeze in the refrigerator compartment even on setting 1.



I think I should replace the Thermistor.

Is the anything else I should check?

I replaced the thermistor today after checking the ohm's as noted here:

I had a reading of 830 ohms. The new thermistor reads 7650 ohms. I'll run the fridge overnight and check it tomorrow.

$18 part.

We could always trade refrigerators than you won't have the problem. On my recent trip I am not sure it was even working. I kept it on 12v the entire time driving and parked then when hooked to 110v I made the switch to that. I never tried the propane.
How level do they have to be. I thought it was level enough but maybe I was wrong. I admit I could have put one 2x6 under the drivers side.

Re: fridge levelling; in the owners manual for my Dometic fridge it says:

The vehicle needs to be leveled only so it is comfortable to live in (no noticeable sloping of floor or walls).

Indoor / outdoor wireless thermometers are probably the best way to tell if your fridge is at a recommended temperature. Just put the outdoor transmitter in the fridge, then, at a glance (without having to open the fridge) you can see the fridge temp displayed on the base station.

They cost $15 & up at places like Wal-mart .


Re: my fridge cooling - the new thermistor definitely solved the over-cooling problem. Temp inside the fridge was 44 degrees this morning on setting #1. I've got it on #3 now and will give it a couple of hours.

44 degrees is too warm inside a fridge. 35 to 38 degrees F (1.7 to 3.3 degrees C) is what is recommended.

2.8 C (37 F) in my fridge now but it has to be on the coldest setting (5). I guess that's better than frozen salad!

Do you use one of the small battery operated fans in your refer?
They really do a good job of mixing the air and keeping the temperature even.
Without one the temp might be 37 where you have the thermometer and maybe 32 where the colder air has settled.
I know before we ever used one the control had to be way down to keep everything nice and cold but something would always end up frozen.
With the fan the control could be up a notch and still be plenty cold and no more frozen milk ! (which was really a downer if I had just bought some dessert, especially something with chocolate).
Thanks for the tip on the in-out wireless. I am going to get one. I think a lot of cold air falls out of the box when I open it to check the temp. Especially with these old eyes that take awhile to focus.

I have one somewhere I took it out of my RT when the batteries ran out.
