Refrigerator on 12v

My converter (Magnetek 6345Q) has a thermostatically controlled fan that only turns on at a certain internal temperature. When I run the fridge on DC, the fan starts running after a few minutes. It's a bit irritating and, for me, that would be another reason for fixing the faulty AC heating element ... other than the obvious one that I fix things that are broken.

Actually, the AC and DC amp ratings are different. Multiply the AC amp rating by 10 and you'll get an approximate DC amp draw on your batteries if you were to run thru an inverter. When you do that, the AC heater is slightly more powerful than the DC heater. Explains why an absorption fridge runs better on AC. But it not an indication that it runs more efficiently on AC. To the contrary, it uses more power, but cools better. Make sense?
