Default Rear air ride assist

My 2001 class b coach has air ride assist on the rear axle. There is a pump motor under the chassis with what appears to be a mini plastic air tank. My control gauge has button up and down, but only bleeds air off in the down position. I can't trace the wires any further. Can I just run a 12 v feed to manually turn the pump on to build pressure if needed?
The motor runs if I apply 12v.
