not sure which heater they use- mine sounds like a jet taking off next door- it's a suburban 16,000 BTU*



when on shore power i use a small space heater


when solo I often turn on the hot water heater, which is under my bed and warms the mattress well

mines a 2006 model, I suppose the Suburban was industry standard

Welcome to the forum!

Can you determine what model heater is on the Tofino? That will help those with that model to respond to your question.

I have a Suburban heater similar to what Mike has. Ours is not what I'd consider loud, but it's the cycling from "off" (silent) to "on" (blower fan starting) that can disturb sleep. As he also mentioned, we use a small plug-in electric heater when we're hooked up to 30A electric service. It's not only quieter, but the fan runs constantly so you don't notice the cycling. Same for the roof ac. We run the fan on "constant" to reduce the cycling there as well. However, our model Suburban heater has no such "constant" fan feature.

Instead of the word "horrible," I would say it is pretty much the usual. To be honest, I don't think I've ever seen any other heater in an RV other than the Suburban. It has certainly been in every one of mine. Some also have a heat strip in the AC unit or a heat pump with both heat and cool, but they require 120, while the Suburban heats from propane and a little 12v. (of course, the Tofino has no AC) My two rigs with a heat pump/AC also had the Suburban as back-up.

I have never been able to use those heaters at night as they wake me up every cycle. I use a 12v mattress pad and don't turn the heat on until morning.

BTW, that is the same heat system that is provided in RVs for 2 to 3 times the cost of a Tofino, which is pretty much the lowest price rig on the market these days.

The Truma furnace/Hot water heater in the Winnebago class B products is virtually silent. I literally have to put my hand down by the vent to see if it's working.

I have a Truma Combi in my Panoramic RV i do not hear anything when it is running . This is the best Combine heater an water heater on the market period.

I bought a 2020 Tofino in October 2019. Got in a couple of trips in NH and NJ before winterizing so we were able to use the furnace for only a total of six nights, all at mid to low 30's temps. There is a rushing sound of blowing air when it kicks in but for two notoriously light sleepers it was no problem. YMMV of course. We were toasty warm all of the nights. The furnace is a 16,000 BTU Atwood LP and as you probably know it is the only LP powered device in a Tofino.
