Carb engines that die at idle can be many things. Does it die because it is too rich (sticky or sunken float) or because it is too lean (plugged jets or passages)? Also anything that affects the airflow including the air cleaner, pcv valve, egr valve, vacuum hoses and intake gaskets.
The only obvious thing you can look for is vacuum leaks and dirty air cleaner, plus the pcv valve ifyou know what you are looking at. The hardest part these days is finding a mechanic that is good with carbs, as most are now retired. Now days most shops will want to put on a rebuilt carb before they check out much else.
