New forum - report problems here
If you can read this message then your on the new server using new forum software.
Please report any problems with this forum here on this thread.
We now have the ability to attach a file (such as a photo) to your post.
Reminder: photos should not be larger than 800x600. Also, please resize a copy of your photo before uploading it. Try to get it down to 100k. Some new cameras will have photos larger than 3,000k ! ! !
Some forum members use dial-up internet and some use mobile connections. Neither of those user would be able view large (in dimension, and size) photos. Also, I don't want to burn through my allotted server space.
I have upgraded the forum software from phpBB2 to phpBB3. The feature comparisons are listed here:
http://www.phpbb.com/about/features/
Also, we are now on the newest server from the hosting company. New is good but expect some initial glitches as they continue to configure it.
Welcome to the new board!

Re: New forum - report problems here
I've noticed a problem with browser "cookies". The site asks me to log in a second time when I go to the control panel etc.
I think that problem will clear up once I've switch over to using the domain name classbforum.com. Internet browser "cookies" are set to the domain name not the ip address on the forum.

Be sure to take a look at your setting in the User Control Panel. (located near the upper right corner of your browser window)
The are lots of options there: Manage Subscriptions, Manage Bookmarks, Manage Drafts, Edit Profile, Edit Signature, Edit Avatar, Edit Account Settings & more.

Re: New forum - report problems here
On the old forum, links to websites open in a new browser window. On this new forum, links to websites open in the same browser window that you were using.
If you want the link to open in a new window; Right Click on the link and choose "Open in a New Window"
Quote:
Right-clicking is clicking the right mouse button one time. If you right-click on a file or folder, you are presented with a menu of common actions such as Open, Copy, Paste, and Properties. Viewing the properties of a file or folder is how you can learn about the size, location, and creation date (and more). In a web browser, you can right-click on links to save their “target” (what they link to) to your computer, view the location and file size of images, not to mention the ever-useful Copy and Paste.

Re: New forum - report problems here
I tried to move a block of text from your "Coleman Stove" thread to a new thread. I tried using the "quote" function and it addended it to the same thread, even though I thought I'd started a new thread. This is probably my fault, and probably not a legit problem. I probably didn't use "quote" correctly.
Second attempt, I copied and pasted it into a new thread, which worked.

Re: New forum - report problems here
Well, everyone should find the new forum now. I changed the domain nameservers to point classbforum.com to to this address.
You don't have to use the IP address anymore. http://www.classbforum.com or http://www.classbforum.com/phpBB2/index.php should both work. If they don't, give it another day. The nameservers around the world don't update at the same time. It some cases it might take 48hrs.

Re: New forum - report problems here
Maybe my eyes are not as good as some but I just thought I would mention that the dark blue words on top of light blue background is a little hard to read. I do like a lot more contrast.

Re: New forum - report problems here
I'll see what I can do. I might be able to make the default posting font a little larger pretty easily.

Re: New forum - report problems here
I'm testing a new template.
This one allows you to resize the font.
Looks like it toggles 3 different sizes, sort of like small, medium & large.
The control is located in the upper right corner of the page.

Re: New forum - report problems here
I know it costs money to keep a site like this running... but an advertisement after EACH post? Wow...
And having the poster's info on the right saide is.. wierd. I'm so used to seeing it on the left. Change is good though, right?
Are you planning a nice fancy forum logo or graphic in the future?

Re: New forum - report problems here
re: the Amazon ads - just experimenting Dave
In two years I've "earned" $2.19 from them! They'll pay me when I reach $100.00 in earnings. Still, I want to find a way to better integrate them on the site and display products that I feel good about recommending.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm getting used to this new layout and yes, I should come up with a better logo.
Someone suggested I should go with a red color scheme. Let me hear your ideas.

Re: New forum - report problems here
Well, as far as a color scheme, since this forum isn't color-specific w/ a particular product, maybe it could be up to the user to choose how he/she wants it to look. Is there an option that users could set in their control panel to pick the color scheme they like? Most forums have a "default" color scheme, but then you can change it based on a few choices in a drop-down list. Is that an option for this new forum software?
And as far as the ads go, a $1/year profit isn't much to talk about (or count on). That means that you'll get a check in what? 98 years?
Most of the other forums I belong to keep the advertising at the bottom of the page, or the bottom and in the middle. PLUS, they have sponsors who get a half-wide little banner at the top of the pages, and in return the sponsors contribute some money to the site. And, of course, there's always the possibility of getting donations from members to help keep the forum going.

Re: New forum - report problems here
As for a logo, you just need a few minutes in Photoshop to throw something together....
All it needs is maybe some silhouettes of some Class B's in the background, huh?
And that's just using your color scheme (blue) for now. It could have any colors in it, different font files, sizes, effects.....
On a different note, can't we upload our own avatars?
