And I said previously it is a design suitable to a single traveler. That could be male or female in that case. Interblog’s observations are right on in my opinion. George as you know is a single traveler and his design is biased in that way.

There is a group of 80/20 users on the Sprinter Forum sharing designs, concepts discussing best solutions. I haven’t seen George there but have no doubts he has quiet presence there as some of concepts he most likely took from there.

Dave Orton was one of the first folks who started using T-profile - 80/20 and extensively shared his design on that forum - https://sprinter-source.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=34012. Dave also started great thread fully focused on 80/20 methodology https://sprinter-source.com/forum/sh...hlight=80%2F20 Dave shared his heat transfer issue due to attaching 80/20 aluminum directly to chassis’ metal, I took it heart in placed PVC thermal brake for O/H cabinets which I shared on the forum a few folks have duplicated my mounting design such as Asimba.

Another good source of 80/20 information was by Geek on this thread https://sprinter-source.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=17258 with over 800K views, unfortunately he is no longer active on the forum.

I learned a lot from both of them, when I started mu conversion, I was aware of t-slot profiles often used in factory automation but application to van conversion I got from the Sprinter-Forum. This is my thread https://sprinter-source.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=21773

I consider 80/20 conversion by Asimba2 as one of best, his target was VW California like conversion very similar to our target of VW Westfalia. https://sprinter-source.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=55196 See his video below.

This is my critique of George’s conversion, let’s just look at his cab overhead shelf on the picture. Assuming 100 lbs. would be a maximum load in this location. 100 lbs. distributed weight on 8 x 1.5” beams will result with deflection of 0.0051”, a little like rigid airplane's wings . Total weight of these 8 about 60” beams would be 38 lbs. That is way overdesigned.

This is an example of light weight by using 2 x 1.0 beams (+ plywood) would deflect 0.067” under same load and would weight of 5.3 lbs., so in summary extra 33 lbs. in an undesired load high location. George spent $216 for his 8 beams versus $28 of 2 x 1" beams which would be sufficient. One of key reasons for using 80/20 is light weight but very strong frame construction, George missed the light weight 80/20 benefit throughout his built.

His lay out wouldn’t be my choice but this is a very individual decision. I would question his “composting” toilet installation, as far as I know these toilets must be vented, it doesn’t seem his is. I can see a small porta potty locked in a cabinet, but placing a large toilet which requires venting in a sliding drawer cabinet wouldn’t be my choice,

Default love it! about that futon

Though I'm no longer in the market for a van (purchased my second B van last March) this was a pleasure to watch.

There's a side sofa / double bed in my van and it could use an update. How can I find out more about that futon?

The futon is totally custom. Follow George on his Facebook page or YouTube channel called "Humble Road." He spent a lot of time developing and creating that futon and documented it all with several videos.
