Anyone can gain good lessons from troubleshooting. In retrospect you could get your issue resolved much faster if you would start with measuring voltage not current. Let’s assume you measured voltage and it was 11V at the fridge. Folks from Novakool and from this forum would be telling you FIX the WIRING, instead we all chased a wild-goose.
|
All they said was "Please check the wire going to the fridge with a Clampmeter ..."
Which I did the next day.
At first they thought it was because the original wires were undersized even though the 3 way used 12 volt operation before.
Then they suggested an issue with my negative side of the charging system but as you know, getting an appt is very difficult indeed, especially when others have units lined up in front of you for weeks & its a matter of chasing wiring gremlins.
Then the other day I went to do the battery reconfiguring & in the process of determining the best solution they also FOUND the issue & with the Fridge.
After fixing this the rv guy said the battery reconfiguring was going to take some time, hence the appt this Friday.
With everything visible, inside the rig, away from the elements, I am expecting success.
Checked with you guys as to the possible loss of efficiency between 12 inches of cable. 36 or 42 which would be the three different options, in lengths
Since we are going to overhaul it, now I want to be as smart as possible.
As for amps, etc i have 250 watts of solar, a 30/100 Victron MTTP Controller & 2 x 6 volt, 220mah* AGM Lifelines.

Battery Configuration is finished.
For GEORGERA, the voltage with new batteries & the DC Compressor Fridge cycling was 13.17 volts, I was connected to solar though, connected the way you asked me to.
The vehicle seems to even drive better, maybe its the 132 lb weight of the batteries combined finally be up over the back of the rear axle & centered.
The wood ending strips I will change later this week to something more sturdier wood that looks better, cut correctly & aligned.
Kept the subwoofer in place.
The batteries perform flawlessly.
My 2 year old Lifeline AGM 12 volts were reading 94% SOC when I drove to the workshop at 8am, with very little sunlight due to the smog.
An hour after they had no load on them I checked them with the voltmeter, 12.64 & they were both equal!
We eliminated so much extra cabling & they are arranged in Series.
Just one negative/ground.
Absolutely no need for a fan to be installed on the fridge, the unit is working flawlessly.
Checked & rechecked all crimping - everything passed.
I wish like the change from.a 3 Way to a DC Fridge, from a black tank & traditional RV Toilet to a Porta Potti, I only wish I had done this sooner but ...

Its 12.30am & I parked after a short trip about 35minutes ago.
Was parked for about 2 plus hours.
Numbers look good.

The BTS sensor shouldn't be under a lug. Putting it under can increase resistance.

Make the cable hole cut in pic. #5 of your first post is foam sealed to prevent fumes and pests from entering.

Will do. Thank you!
Was that from the Victron website?
IT APPEARS THE VICTRON IS "ON TOP".
IT APPEARS THE MAGNUM "IS UNDERNEATH".
I have to open it up but there are two temperature sensors, the Victron on one post & the Magnum* on one (I don’t know if its a sensor though).
Are you saying the Magnum sensor is positioned wrong also?
PS. Is it ALWAYS A 100% given it will increase resistance or sometimes - I didn't do the work, my RV Guy did & he should know in thr future.

Thank you - the Whole is actually pretty small & they put a hard plastic ring on one side, lots of silicone, and then another plastic ring on the upper.

Here are two photos, of both batteries, as they were connected ar the posts before.
One one you will see a black & red wire from the battery posts - this is a relic from when I used to connect an ITEK unit to charge the batter & sometimes, equalize them.
I stopped this about two years ago.

The Victron sensor thing looks OK. The Magnum temperature sensor is under the crimped on lug. It should be over the the crimped on lug.
The lug should be the first thing that touches the battery post. Anything between the lug and the battery post adds resistance. If the Magnum sensor is made of steel for example then you likely be able to feel the heat at that connection when running a high amperage load.
