Maybe it is the company we keep, but it seems that the folks we know who ice fish basically go to drink and play cards, hoping the fish don't bother them!

You can tell the serious Minnesota ice fishermen. They are the ones out on the ice when it is walkable and sitting outdoors on their upside down 5 gallon plastic buckets.

Yikes - how true. I left Minnesota because of ice fishing. My Dad had us on the ice every weekend in winter. It didn't end until spring when we were on the ice standing in 4-6 inches of ice water on top of the 24 inches of ice. Makes me cold just thinking about it.
