HymerCar Grand Canyon at Tampa RV Show
HymerCar Grand Canyon at Tampa, FL RV Show

The ERWIN HYMER GROUP, Europe’s leading motorhome and caravan manufacturer, will display a different caliber of Class B motorhome known as the HymerCar Grand Canyon as it initiates dealer development during the 2015 Florida RV SuperShow, Jan. 14-18 in Tampa.
|
Quote:
“The HymerCar Grand Canyon will rewrite the book for Class B motorhomes in North America,” said Giovanni Marcon, managing director, U.S. market development. “The Grand Canyon delivers unprecedented performance and capability for people who need the versatility of a motorhome in a smaller package than the traditional Class A or Class C motorhome. The Grand Canyon is designed to meet the needs of the die-hard tailgater, the weekend explorer and so much more.”

This is not a totally unexpected development but it is exciting news!

Re: HymerCar Grand Canyon at Tampa RV Show
We have heard a lot of things called "game changers" lately, with all the new base vans, and new B models, but when you take someone like Hymer, that has tons of experience and resources, jumping in, that could really shake things up.
If they are successful with this model, they have a huge pipeline of stuff that could be brought here pretty easily, based on Fiat and MB vans, cutaways and small class A frames.
Nothing but good can come from this, IMO.

3 models with bathroom:

Re: HymerCar Grand Canyon at Tampa RV Show
These models are awesome! Some of the best floor plans I've seen for the type of things we would use it for. Having a high top van with a pop top bed is genius. It only needs to go up when you want to sleep up there. The dinette is nice in a van this size too. I'd love to see one in person.
If they can bring this in at good price point I think they will sell like crazy.

Nah, we don't need no stinkin' lenses any more. I sold our Airstream interstate using my iPhone in Pano mode:

Re: HymerCar Grand Canyon at Tampa RV Show
I have a wide-angle lens attachment for my iPhone. I haven't tried it out yet photographing a B.

Re: HymerCar Grand Canyon at Tampa RV Show
Hymer is one of the biggest European names, and they had made noise about stepping in the US market due to the Ducato/PM being made here, about two years ago.
They do have four obstacles here, though:
1: Generators and A/C. Unless they go the alternator/engine generator route, not many people in the southern part of the US will buy their offerings. An A/C, be it a Danhard-type unit or an overhead one, is mandatory. In Europe, not so much, as ventilation from a fan is good enough there.
2: In Europe, almost all rigs dump gray water, but use cassette toilets. Having to make floor plans that deal with US style plumbing will be an obstacle. Of course, they could go with macerator toilets that allow the commode to be located somewhere other than right on top of the black tank, but that is an additional expense.
3: The US is 120 volts, and Europe is 240 volts. Electrical systems have to be completely redesigned to work here.
4: In Europe, Ducatos are rear wheel drive and 4WD/AWD. The front wheel drive ProMaster requires engineering to handle the lower clearance.

Re: HymerCar Grand Canyon at Tampa RV Show
The brochure also shows promaster and products like onan genset king ant. On the windshield said built in Germany? Price in broken English should be competitive with Canadian build class b.

Re: HymerCar Grand Canyon at Tampa RV Show
The built in Germany thing may be the first off thing. I know that folks like Honda build all new model year US version CRVs in Japan before releasing production here. DW got one of the early ones from Japan in 2008, 2009 model year.

They are built in Michigan and they said they have a dealer near Tampa but I didn't get their name.

The 2 units at the show were built in Michigan.
they had a generator, A/C, 12 volt compressor refrigeration and were front wheel drive Promasters.
Thank goodness somebody finally sells a B in the US with opening Seitz windows and a Thetford cassette toilet. I'm tired of the Europeans getting all the good stuff.

Please elaborate on this, as this is completely opposite of all my research, as well as all the model reviews from Europe that I've posted over the last couple years.
