Default How do you handle turnpike tolls?

Tolls are a pain. I have an E-pass, and the PlusPass app, which handles a lot of states we travel in. Just getting back from a Grand Canyon visit, we ended up driving through Kansas, which, of course, has there own system!

When this happens are you going on line to try to pay them or just wait for them to track you down? Kansas seems to read the back license plate, which, in our case, is obscured by our bike rack anyway.

PS: Ended up with a great spot in Trailer Village at the Grand Canyon. Just by luck we had a lot of shade.

Just went through there (VA to NV and back), they tracked us down and it was cheap.

FYI, we have the Massachusetts EZ-pass, no yearly/monthly fees, they only charge us when we use it.

We have 2 Virginia EZ Passes - one 2-axle for the size/weight class of our sprinter and one 4 axle for when we are pulling the toad. Have not encountered many toll roads that do not accept the EZ Pass, and not sure if other that Virginia assesses different rates based on the toad. If the non-ezpass road says they bill us we just go with that.

Once got a toll violation, New Jersey Turnpike read our toad as a second vehicle running the toll. Wrote them a letter and the rescinded the violation.

I went thru a few toll roads a year ago. When I got home I called each state and settled up with a credit card.

Generally speaking, it's just not worth it.
It's a rare circumstance when I use a toll road.
Set the GPS to avoid them.

If you're in California, fast track will (used to anyhow, I moved out in 2018 ) provide a decent discount for having an account. pretty sure you can sign up online and pay by plate almost instantly.
