Default Hot Water Tank Full?

New Roadtrek 190 Popular: Long time since last RV...on taking delivery, our "tech" knew RV components, but was NOT familiar with Roadtrek..as a result, much confusion between what he said, and the owners manual..so I'll probably be popping up from time to time...unit was supposed to be delivered "winterized"; nope...question: when we go to use it for the first time, how can you confirm that the Hot Water heater is full?...(the "tech" did not know where the fresh water fill's were located, nor the fact that there were TWO tanks on board)...Tips appreciated...thanks...Jim....Sedona, Arizona

Welcome to the forum

Re: the water heater - I just run water out of the "hot" and the "cold" side of the faucet (separately) until all the air is out of the system before turning on the water heater. It's easier to do when hooked up to "city" water. It would take a while for the pump to fill a 6 gallon water heater. I only need to do the water heater fill procedure after draining the water heater.

thanks for the prompt reply...I "get" the draining the tank for winterizing, but due to the lack of familiarity with this product by the "tech", and the use of the " by pass" valve he glossed over, his observation was to "open the pressure" valve at the top of the tank, and see if water starts escaping"...seemed kind of primitive...but I suppose effective...while I have your undivided attention: in the owner manual, winterizing/ re-wint/ there is just a ONE line reference "open the toilet valve"...NO WHERE is there any information as to where that might be...it certainly is not obvious from the bathroom..this model has the "enclosed" head....I may have to contact the mfg and solicit more info...the dealer really dropped the ball on the delivery tech they assigned...huge outfit, and they apologized profusely, but rather than have the Service Manager come out to apologize, seems to me if he knew the kid he sent didn't know this specific model, and he was short handed, maybe HE should have done the walk through...just sayin'....really glad I found this site...it is a GREAT resource and I appreciate the effort required to maintain it...thanks again..........jb

I don't open the water heater temperature/pressure relief valve when filling the water heater.
Instead, I open a faucet.

If you open the water heater temperature/pressure relief valve when filling then make sure allow the water level in the water heater to fall below the level of the temperature/pressure relief valve before closing that safety valve. Both Suburban and Atwood RV water heaters are designed to have air pocket to accommodate water expansion as it is heated.

Toilet valve would be the flush valve on the toilet.

It seems lot a lot of info all at once but it all becomes more clear very quickly. Keep asking questions - everyone gets a chance to learn that way
