Default Has anyone repaired those pop out latches older Roadtrek

Mine won't open at all and tried to open remove the three screws today to lubricate it but the holes it seems got bigger and screws are loose now.

I really dislike these pop out things.

Has anyone replaced these or the entire window?

There seems to be nothing in the holes where the screws go to hold on to. Here's a pic of the pop out latch.

Sorry pic is sideways but you get the idea what I'm talking about. Thanks.

On my 1997 PW the latches on the rear window were riveted so the window would not open. I believe they may have done this to prevent exhaust fumes from entering the van if the engine was idling with the window open. You may want to check. They can be drilled out.

Thx for the reply.

They are actually three Phillips screws but the hole is huge and window is loose unfortunately.

The door button to open is right next to it so I'm afraid of easy break ins.

I know you can fill in holes with glue etc but there seems to be nothing for the screw in there to catch on to.

Probably bring it to a glass shop tomorrow.

Thx again.

These vent windows were part of the original Dodge van for my PW. I have a factory service manual. The vent latch does not thread into the door itself. There is what they call a "tapping plate," a small rectangle of metal with tapped holes for the screws, that sits inside the door that the latch screws into
. I'm guessing that maybe when you took the latch off the plate might have slid down the inside of the door. You'd have to remove the trim panel on the inside of the door to get at it.

Ahh I think I remember hearing something make a sound when I was unscrewing the screws. I'm sure it's that tapping plate.

I'll have to bring it to a mechanic to remove that trim panel. I've given up doing these things cause anytime I did it was a disaster so I just pay to get it done. Wish I were more mechanical but I'd need to watch things done first by another then maybe I'd be able to do them.

Thank you for the detailed reply. Appreciate it

My 1997 PW is built on the 1996 Dodge 3500 chassis. I found the manual online on Amazon, used but in good condition. It is the actual Dodge publication. Cover description "1996 Service Manual Ram Van/Wagon." 9x11" about 2" thick. It's helped me diagnose and fix many things.
