It looks as if I would be in the $2,467.50 category of former owner and new owner after September, 2020. Maybe the good news out of all this is maybe MB thinks their troubles are behind them with the newer VS30 model Sprinters. I doubt they would want to go around in another lawsuit like this. I hope. Any money is found money because I had no problems and they voluntarily replaced the nox sensors under warranty when I had my last service at 80,000 miles on my 2015 just as a precaution I guess. I traded it in at 95,000 miles.

I hope so, too. A reliable Sprinter would be a good thing. But, what they want and what they are capable of doing are two different things. Wishes don't catch fishes. At an rate, they were nailed for cheating, not for unreliability. Not sure how much they care about the latter. All the European luxury brands have deep reliability problems. I suspect it is because their customer base tends to buy a new vehicle every couple of years, and they don't care about the resale market.

Sadly, I am unaware of any basic changes to BlueTec in the VS30 vs. the NCV3. Hopefully the latest revs of the various problematic sensors and other components are more robust. They are dependent on Bosch for that. I do not expect to ever see a fundamental improvement. Diesel is dead, and nobody is going to spend the R&D.

[Yes, I understand that your rig was trouble-free. I am glad of it.]

That IS nice! I filled out the forms and forgot about it. We'll see if anything comes of it.

Sorry Davydd - the deadline for former owners has passed. It was July 12, 2021.

Details at this web site:
https://www.mbbluetecsettlement.com/

The October 2022 deadline is for current owners of 2010-2016 Sprinters.

Current owner payments didn’t start until the former owners were identified and paid earlier this year.

The Nox sensors have been improved and the VS30 Sprinters you would really have to be a real noob to ignore DEF warnings when it is 2.5 gallons down in a 4.8 gallon tank. Filling is easier now with less mess and trouble.

I'm not worried about diesel R&D now that I have one more reliable than gasoline engines. Diesel is not going away any sooner than gasoline engines, and besides, I doubt I would have to worry about it in my remaining RV lifetime. I've made practical decisions, not theoretical.

Sprinters are still better quality and design, IMO, than other vans.

I'm not so sure what's nice about it. They should send out $50,000 for build such a piece of crap. Worst vehicle on the market. JMO

As I said somewhere else, "nice" has nothing to do with it. They didn't send the checks because they cared about selling unreliable polluting vehicles to their customers. They sent checks because they cheated and got caught.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on any product. I am voting with my feet.

I know how VW cheated with their diesels by detecting EPA test conditions and changed for this time running parameters to lower emission. To detect testing, they use steering sensor, if steering was stationary but wheels were rotating an EPA test was running.

I don’t know how Mercedes cheated, just wrong numbers?

I don't know the details, but this is what the settlement website says:

Quote:
Plaintiffs allege that the Subject Vehicles were equipped with emission control systems that caused the Subject Vehicles to emit more nitrogen oxides (“NOx”) than consumers reasonably expected, and more NOx than was permitted under federal and state clean air laws. Plaintiffs also claim that the Defendants intentionally misled consumers about the qualities and characteristics of the Subject Vehicles.

Maybe "lying" might be a better word than "cheating".

Poking around a bit:

Apparently the EPA determined that there were software hacks similar in intent to the VW stuff:

Quote:
EPA alleged that Daimler installed undisclosed software functions and defeat devices in approximately 250,000 light and medium-duty diesel vehicles (passenger cars and Sprinter vans, model years 2009-2016). The undisclosed software functions and defeat devices cause the vehicles’ emission control systems to perform differently, and less effectively, during certain normal driving conditions than on federal emission tests, resulting in increased emissions of oxides of nitrogen (“NOx”) during typical vehicle operation. NOx includes harmful air pollutants linked to cardiac and respiratory disease.

Thank you, it is unimaginable that large corporations would resort to such high caliber cheating. I work for large American company for many years and folks would be walked away by suggesting.

I've yet to understand why some got $3590 and others, like us, only got $3515. Strange. Either way, happy to have the check, just curious about the details on that logic

Seattle Washington

I submitted my documentation on Aug 1, 2022 and had my check by Sep 30th. I was having trouble with the proof of original ownership due to it being registered in one state that is not my current place of residence and I could not find the original bill of sale. I called the help line, was answered immediately and the person gave me accurate and good advice.

I have had no issues.

Guys - especially Hatteras Jim - I want to thank you for the latest post which reminded me I'd heard and received nothing from MBUSA on this lawsuit.
So I wrote to Hagens Berman, gave them my claim number. They investigated it with MBUSA who responded that I hadn't included proof of sale documents. Actually I checked back and did send them in. So I resent them to Hagens Berman who eventually told me I can expect a check late January or February.
Better late than never but you'd think they could have written to me directly!
Thanks Jim......Peter
