Gas and diesel pricing
I just had to take a quick run to Home Depot, and when I went by Supreramerica, I think it said regular gas at $2.39 and diesel at $3.69. Maybe they had something else priced on the sign like the non ethanol premium or something. Have they really diverged that far?

Re: Gas and diesel pricing
It's heating oil season so I expect diesel to stay higher than gas would be.

Re: Gas and diesel pricing
I do get the heating oil effect, there have been issues here in Minnesota with shortages in the recent past, but I don't ever recall seeing more the $.50/60 difference in the past in diesel, but I don't buy diesel so I may have missed it. What have the diesel drivers been seeing?

Re: Gas and diesel pricing
Might be around 80 cents US$ gallon difference here. I did a quick conversion from liters. I'd say normal winter difference but heading to high side. It's rare for me to use the van in winter.

Re: Gas and diesel pricing
Gas fluctuates greatly. Diesel doesn't. Per gallon diesel is quite a bit more efficient as a fuel and you have to account for that in your comparison. Until about 2007 diesel was always less than regular gas and then it changed. However, as recently as last spring I saw diesel in the Midwest a little less than regular gas. So, it can change. On our return to Minnesota in May 2013 I was sitting in the passenger seat so snapped this photo in Hudson, Wisconsin.
Diesel, when you account for the energy efficiency has always been cheaper than regular in the summer. In the winter, not so much because of the fuel oil diversion I imagine.

Re: Gas and diesel pricing
Running around here today I saw anywhere from $1.30 to $.90 higher for diesel than unleaded. Eastern Kansas....

Re: Gas and diesel pricing
50 cents higher than regular in northern California but only 20 cent more than premium which I run in all my cars. I still think it is worth the extra money for the better mpg in my sprinter.

Re: Gas and diesel pricing
Moot point for me. I chose a Sprinter for its design not engine and I have never and will continue to never worry about the comparative costs. Since there was no choice I got diesel by default. My criticism of diesel are dirty pump handles and some inconveniences of pump locations. Here is the good news for diesel.
If your all-electric car gets its power from coal, new study says it is dirtier than gasoline
The article goes on to state:
Quote:
Hybrids and diesel engines are cleaner than gas, causing fewer air pollution deaths and spewing less heat-trapping gas.

Re: Gas and diesel pricing
Sprinters were available with gasoline engines (3.5L V-6) when imported by Dodge. Wish they would again offer gas engine as an option.

Re: Gas and diesel pricing
I don't even recall that. I know no Class B converter offered one. Are you sure it just wasn't talk, speculation and supposition because Mercedes Benz does make gasoline engines and there was a lot of hope with the new model they would start? They were always Mercedes Benz Sprinters. Dodge was owned by Daimler until 2010 and just badged them with the Dodge name as they did with the Freightliner name for the dealers. Other than badge and front grill they were all identical in every way.
