Default Finally we found and bought a class B now we need insurance

After several months of looking we finally found a van we liked. It’s a 2006 RT Adventurous RS. We will pick her up next Thursday.
Now we need insurance- all our other cars and our house are insured by AAA but I wonder if special RV insurances or other providers would be better
I’d appreciate if you let me know which companies are good and which ones to stay away from

Congrats !

A universal rule: ALL insurance companies are better at collecting premiums than paying out claims.

Until we have a claim we don't really know who we are doing business with.

Make sure that you are titled and registered as a roadtrek ( not a "van" ).

I got my best quote via progressive- I also have motorcycles, cars and house with Progressive.

When I got hit in my car ( damage, no injury) they were pretty good to deal with and processed claim and repair quickly, not wasting time with "we are processing a claim with the other insurance company".

They just fixed it and then sorted out with state farm who owed what to who.

but each year I always call around for quotes- we have changed carriers when the money made sense

I have had State Farm forever. Use to call around for quotes but do not bother anymore as their rates are always competitive. SF is usually in the top 3 for customer service which to me is more important than saving a small amount. They also have an emergency road service ryder for cheap. If you get it do not expect great service for $10 year. If you want top of the line road service Coach-net $$$$

We've been State Farm customers for over 30 years with home, auto, and umbrella coverage but they weren't remotely competitive for RV insurance. They offered expensive and poor coverage. We still have SF for everything but went with Progressive for the van.

brings up the idea of roadside, some policies offer, some don't.

AFAIK all the roadside will call the same guy with a truck no matter where you are.

I have a complementary basic roadside on my motorcycles thru Harley Owners Group with Road America. $50 gets me coverage on our RV and cars in US and Canada.

Many plans have exclusions read carefully, some exclude dirt road or private property ( which could be where you are camping)

With Road America I have had a couple of motorcycle tows which would have cost hundreds without a plan.

many of us have some type of plan available through our insurance or an affiliation, figure out which makes best sense

I have Farmer's for our automobiles and Progressive RV for our Class B.

I use an independent insurance agency and they shops for and handles the best deal for us. I don't know if it is for the best. The agent was a client when I had my architectural practice and I also hired his architectural student son back in the 1980s. So, I've stayed with the agency ever since though it has grown, changed management and employees.
