Have you gotten this figured out, Ann? I have a 1999 Roadtrek 190P, so I have a Dodge. I'm assuming you have a Chevy? I had a similar problem, but it's a combination of the light switch on the dash and the light switch that's on the dome light, and getting them both in the right place. It sounds like yours is a little different from mine if you have a Dome light on your dash. My switch is by the switch for the headlights. I can't remember what I did now, but I know I didn't have the switch on the dome light in the right place.

I had the same issue as well.
Also, IIRC having any of the doors not completely closed adds to the mystery.

on the chev, check that the switch contacts on the forward edge of the side door frame are clean- an eraser or quick buff with a scotchbrite pad

Our 2012 190-Ranger had the same problem a couple of years ago. We gave up searching for the fix and removed the bulb; so far we don't miss it.
