Default Diesel Engine in 2008 Leisure Tracel Van

We are looking at purchasing a 2008 Leisure Travel Van 210B. It has 82,000 miles (137,000k). Should we be concerned about the high mileage? What kind of future repairs can We expect? Thanks.

Not sure what engine you have, and that may make a big difference, but 82k miles on a diesel is nothing really.

The GMC DuraMax engines have been known to last 500K without a whimper. That being said, certain years have certain problems. Fuel injectors are a common one. I have 300,000 km on my DuraMax and not all was perfect but it is a keeper in my book.

Best look at the specific year and make of the engine (search online forums). Some years of Ford had issues, same with Cummins.

Thanks Marley. It's a Mercedes engine and I will search more on that engine.

I assume this is on the newer Sprinter with the 6 cyl Diesel engine?

Our 08 Freightliner Sprinter Roadtrek had been reliable with no major issues, the mileage you have is actually not very high for an 8 year old Sprinter. We bought ours used in 2012 and the first owner hardly used it, it came with 15,000 miles. We have added 45,000 miles including a 14,000 mile 5 month trip to Alaska.

Assuming they did the recommended maintenance on the Sprinter chassis, I would worry more about the camper side. How many hours on the Onan generator? Should be in the range of at least 100-200 hours if it was excercised and used. Less hours is not good on the Onan.

Yes it is the Mercedes v6 engine. Good advice on the generator. I will look into that. Thanks for your comments very helpful.

In Europe, 500,000 km Sprinters are a common sight.
Some have even gone a million km.

Mechanicals seem to be the strong point - electrical not so much. Bosch Injectors seem problematic. What is everyone else hearing/seeing?

The 2005 Sprinter has the 5 cyl diesel that is known to be more reliable than the newer engines with more emissions controls and also gets better mileage than the 6 cyl. Newer 6 cyl ones can go just as many miles as the older ones but cost for fuel and maintenance and repairs are likely to be higher.
