Default Costco diesel

Local, very convenient for us Costco (Tigard OR) stopped selling diesel fuel today and prices are almost as high as in Europe. Ouch.

most costcos don't carry diesel at all.

I suppose they have to use local suppliers and can't control costs as easily

I asked why, only 5% of customers take diesel. I thought that tires and fuel business for Costco were primarily to entice customers in, I guess I was wrong. I can find local diesel stations at similar prices, just less convenient.

I thought Costco fuel on the whole was at least 10% cheaper than anywhere else, don't know how they do it?

Costco gas is only 5% to at most 10% cheaper in Tidewater, VA.

3.19 Costco
3.39 at some other top tier stations (Exxon, BP)

I have never seen diesel at the Costcos I have gone to.

Simple. It is a loss leader to get you to come to the store. Costco's are not like Walmart where just about every community has one. A round trip to Costco for me is about 25 miles. I can fill my tank for my car about 11 gallons typically and get about 25 miles per gallon. So, for me it is not worth it at 10 cents less per gallon when I spend currently $3.69 per gallon. So I potentially spend $3,69 to save $1.10 for a fill up when I have a gas station about a 1/4 mile for my house. I don't think people give that a thought.

Besides, you can burn even more gasoline in the long lines waiting at Costco.

Bummer. We get our diesel at the Portland Costco on NE 138th. Hope they don't follow Tigard's lead.
