Class B Bed Comfort
We are looking at purchasing a used Leisure Travel Van 210B. We would like to know how comfortable the bed in the back will be. Will we need to add a memory foam or good mattress cover to make it comfortable? Anybody have any comments?
Thanks

Not sure if it is comparable, but the bed in my 2000 Leisure Travel Freedom 2A is hard as a rock. A memory foam topper was a major improvement on it.
Edit: Also to note, mine has the rear seat that folds down into a bed, and not the dinette

Perusing all the chat places that I know of dealing with B's, it seems perhaps a majority do use some sort of pad. We're quite happy with a 1.5 inch memory foam pad, just to even out the ridges from where all the cushions join up.
We're very comfy on the bed otherwise. We don't put ours up and down daily, just leave in down, in the U-shaped king/twin configuration. Mrs Obg made a cover for the pad out of an old sheet, and we use lightweight sleeping bags on that, hardly ever zipped up. Very cosy, and we sleep as well as at home. (same number of midnight trips!)

People are all over the place on what they think is a comfortable mattress.
I like a firm mattress, so memory foam mattresses are to my liking generally. The pads on top of a lumpy. rock hard mattress I've never found very effective. A couple inches of foam can only do so much.
The good news is that there are a number of companies that will make you a custom mattress to your liking that will match the size in the van you are interested in. So if you are getting a good deal on this van, don't let the mattress hold you back.

Our fold down cushions were so uncomfortable. We tried 2 different foam mattress toppers. Nothing worked. And to have campland cut you a mattress. Outrageous
We decided to try an air mattress from walmart. It's like a real mattress
Best 40 bucks I ever spent.
First time I ever slept well in the van.
I got the one with the external pump big mistake. It's snug up against the side wall and difficult to fill . We will get another one only with the built in pump , much easier.
Oh it's a Regular size and it fits tight but it works well.

We custom picked our mattress. It is on the firm side with 2 inches of memory foam and 3 inches of high density latex. I generally prefer a firm mattress. We could have gotten really anything we wanted and what we tested and chose seems to work. We also could have gotten different mattresses in our modified twin bed setup but it worked out the same. I sleep better on it than our Sleep Number air mattress at home that we just added a 2 inch memory foam topper to it.

Hi!
My Experience with foam seat cushions doubling as a bed aren't good.
My current camper, a VW Vanagon is quite frankly uncomfortable.
As I build my Class B it WILL have a real innerspring mattress across the rear, no folding, no lift up under seat storage, no dining table, just a comfy inner spring pillow top place to crash after a day of driving! Just like a Hampton Inn.........

There is a big difference between a block of old-school foam and modern highly-engineered foam mattresses. Even the high-end home market is trending away from innersprings in favor of multi-density, egg crate foam mattresses (with or without memory foam).

Pay attention to the cabinetry surrounding your bed if you go for a custom mattress. In mine, the exit from the bed is via the center of the bottom of the bed. You have to crab-walk your way down there, not good at 0300 if you're an inflexible geezer. That's why we prefer the U-shape configuration.

As do we. Our custom latex mattress is U shaped in our Chevie Roadtrek 190. It makes a huge difference in convenience.
