Default Class B Awnings

Question for people who use awnings. Do you use the awning that came with your class B, purchase a new awning or did you build your own?

I am thinking of building my own.
Backwards Vanner built his own that can withstand strong winds and rain.
I might give this one a try. In his video he gives fairly good descriptions of how to build it.

my PW has a fiamma.

better supported to the ground than to the cleats on the van.

we use once in a while if we are not in a shady spot.

wind is a concern, so we crank it back if leaving the campsite

which takes...2 minutes.

fiamma parts sourced at gowesty- best prices we have found

Our Airstream Interstate has a Carefree Freedom II / Omnistor which is original to it and it seems to work just fine.

I'm less interested in modifying the awning itself and more interested in creating a no-see-um net to augment it. One of the trailer owners on Air Forums did this as a DIY project - got a very light but strong paracord, bought bulk netting and trimmed / grommeted the netting down to the correct size for his own awning. Then ran the paracord through the grommets and now he secures it to his awning when needed.

I think the trick is not to make the whole assembly too heavy so that it won't weigh excessively on the awning structure. That's fairly easy with no-see-um netting which is extremely light.

Anyway, it's on my intermediate-term to-do list. I own some lake frontage land in Canada which is postcard-perfect except for the mosquitoes and black flies and horse flies and deer flies, which are the usual stereotypical Canadian plague from hell. I need every bug control option attainable with a Class B because we intend to camp there more in the future.

If you take your awning off and take it to a shop that does automotive interiors they could sew on a zipper for you. Then you could just zip on the mosquito netting.

or stick male or hook velcro to the outer edge, many fine screens can just be pressed into the hooks and stay in place.

the screens we made for our side and rear doors stay in place just that way.

we used a couple of the as seen on tv magnet door sets

one of the fantastic parts of our Oregon trip was no bugs ...at all- ever

I am going to order a new Flamma to install on our American Cruiser...we had trouble getting it closed last time out and a piece of the crank mechanism broke. It is possible I could repair it, but I would really rather not hassle with it in the future. We also take a 10x10 with us and set up our living room and kitchen outside.

Check European caravan/campervan websites. There are a ton of awning tent models offered that go from plain to multi-room versions. I've watched the YouTube vids of setting up some of the more elaborate of those. It can take two people 3-4 hours to get those suckers up.
